Digital Transformation Road Map

Sometimes quietly and sometimes disruptively, Digital Transformation for many years has been underway for years. Companies that have designed and are embracing a digital transformation strategy are on the move. They operate more efficiently, they service their customers faster, they make better decisions, and quite interestingly they attract the better talent.

Whether you call it Digital Transformation or Digital Disruption, it is change. It begins with applying some technology to streamline an internal process. Without a fully developed strategy that is driven from a top level, followed, leader; often this is where it stops. However, Digital transformation goes far cool innovative technology that reduces some costs.

Digital Disruption is about re-thinking how your business fundamentally operates and how customers and constituents connect with you. In successful transformations a culture emerges that supports risks taken by worker and thinks positively, not punitively, about failures. As Thomas Edison responded to a question once: How did it feel to fail 1,000 times? Edison replied, I didn't fail 1,000 times. The light bulb was an invention with 1,000 steps.

So Digital Transformation of business is like a mixing bowl. The ingredients include technology such as big data, cloud computing, workflow, business automation, and mobile. But also added into the mixture is talent, culture, leadership, new thinking, and commitment. Together these ingredient at proper levels create a chemical reaction that propels the business forward.

Many companies are just starting their journey and have not fully committed to transformation. My advice to them is to develop a 5 year plan and get the organization behind the plan. Businesses will look very differently in 2022 than they look today. In a recent study 85 % of millennials stated it was very important to work for an organization that was a digital leader and 75% of boomers felt the same. The reason for this is simple: they want to learn and have a stable career with a health company.
